Hello,
Thank you for writing this ministry. We value your input and are thankful you took the time to share your thoughts. You wrote some things that I find very puzzling and I wondered if you could clarify what you meant.
You said you are not a member of the LDS Church and are searching for the truth about it. May I respectfully ask, how do you know what we have on our website is wrong if you don’t know much about the Mormon religion? How do you know I don’t understand Mormonism when I was a temple-going member for 26 years and you have never been a member?
You said that the more people talk bad about this religion the more you search for the truth about it. This is good that you are searching for truth. May I ask if you also search for the truth about Islam, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Scientology, Wicca, Buddhism, and Hinduism, because a lot of people say bad things about those religions too? Are you looking for the truth about Judaism or Christianity? A lot of people say bad things about those religions. If you are looking for truth among all the religions because you want a relationship with the One True and Living God, then I commend you and encourage you to continue. Maybe I am wrong, but it seems that you have already made up your mind without looking at the facts. If I understand your email correctly, it appears you are prepared to jump into Mormonism for no other reason than reading negative things about it. If this is the method you use to find truth you are putting yourself in danger of being deceived.
You concluded your email with the sentiment that God should forgive us for criticizing what others believe. That’s interesting because you are criticizing what we believe! Why is there a double standard? Would you likewise try to shame a Honda salesman for laying out the differences between an Accord and a Yugo? All we do is provide information with references on what Mormonism teaches and what the Bible teaches. A person is free to believe anything he or she chooses; that is their privilege. However, for those in whom the love of truth resides, they deserve full disclosure of facts so they make their decisions based on evidence rather than on a series of emotional experiences.
God does not need to forgive us for doing His will, which is to proclaim the gospel of Christ and make His word known. Jesus criticized the Pharisees, a sect of Judaism. The Apostle Paul criticized the Judaizers. John the Beloved and Jude criticized false teachers. All of them and others in the Bible warned against false prophets. We are doing no more than they.
I pray you seek God with all your heart, for that is the only way you will find Him.
Tracy
